Grammar

Students will complete morning daily spiral reviews on sentence structure, pronouns, adjectives, etc.  They will also continue with their weekly Word Work Quizzes.

• Assessments: Weekly Word Work quiz (Words given on Monday and assessments will be on Friday's); Daily Grammar Spiral reviews (classwork)

Reading

Students will work on 4 novels studies: The Lion, the Witch, and The Wardrobe, Maniac Magee, Frindle and Number the Stars. Students will also complete one cold read assessment each week (Readworks) which will be completed in class during our station rotation.

• Assessments: Novel Comprehension packets (classwork), Comprehension tests, and reading comprehension passages.

Writing

Students will work on 4 big writing assignments (one per quarter):  Personal Narrative, Opinion Writing, Expository Text and Poetry.  We will work paragraph by paragraph taking our time so that students pay close attention to detail, grammar, etc.  Other smaller writing prompts will also take place.

• Assessments: Writing essays (test grade). Option to retest will not be available as they will have ample time to rewrite, edit and follow the rubrics provided to them.
